Honouring Women Shaping Malaysia’s Aviation Industry
The Business and General Aviation Association of Malaysia, BAGAM, supported the Women in Aviation Awards Malaysia 2024, an initiative dedicated to recognising the achievements and contributions of women across the aerospace and aviation sector.
Held in conjunction with the Selangor Aviation Show 2024, the awards ceremony brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and aviation professionals to celebrate individuals who have made a meaningful impact across various segments of the industry. The event reflects the growing emphasis on diversity and inclusion within Malaysia’s aviation landscape.
Creating Visibility for Talent and Leadership
Organised by Women in Aviation Asia in collaboration with Malaysia Aviation Group, and supported by BAGAM alongside key industry partners, the awards aim to elevate the visibility of women in aviation. With women representing less than 20% of the global aviation workforce, initiatives such as this play a crucial role in acknowledging contributions while encouraging greater participation across all levels of the industry. The platform also serves to inspire future generations, particularly students and young professionals exploring careers in aviation and aerospace.
Distinguished Participation from Government and Industry
The ceremony was attended by prominent figures from both the public and private sectors, reflecting strong institutional support for the initiative. Among the distinguished guests were Amirudin Shari, who officiated and presented the awards, alongside Ng Sze Han and Anfaal Saari. Industry stakeholders were also well represented, including Peter Tan, President of BAGAM, as well as senior representatives from aviation organisations and corporate sponsors supporting the event.
Recognising Excellence Across Multiple Disciplines
A total of 15 awards were presented, covering a wide spectrum of aviation disciplines including innovation, safety, engineering, leadership, and flight operations. The recognition extended to both established leaders and emerging talents, as well as pioneers who have broken barriers within the industry. These awards not only celebrate individual achievements but also highlight the diverse roles women play in advancing Malaysia’s aviation sector, from technical expertise to executive leadership.
Supporting a More Inclusive Aviation Ecosystem
BAGAM’s involvement in the awards reflects its broader commitment to supporting initiatives that promote inclusivity and talent development. As the industry continues to evolve, building a diverse workforce remains essential to sustaining innovation and long-term growth. By supporting platforms that recognise excellence and encourage participation, BAGAM contributes to shaping a more balanced and progressive aviation environment in Malaysia.
The strong turnout and industry participation underscore the importance of recognising contributions across all segments of the aviation workforce. Events such as the Women in Aviation Awards not only celebrate achievements but also reinforce the collective responsibility to nurture talent and create equal opportunities. As Malaysia continues to strengthen its position within the regional aerospace sector, sustained efforts in talent recognition and development will remain key to building a resilient and future-ready industry.
