Malaysia’s position as a growing hub for business aviation maintenance received a significant boost with the official opening of a new maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility by ExecuJet MRO Services Malaysia at Subang Airport on 2 May 2024.

The purpose-built facility, spanning approximately 149,500 square feet, is now the largest business aviation MRO centre in Malaysia. More than doubling the size of ExecuJet’s previous operation established in 2009, the expansion reflects the increasing demand for high-quality maintenance services in the rapidly growing Asian business aviation market. The new Subang facility is designed to support a wide range of business jet operators across Asia, reinforcing Malaysia’s strategic role in the regional aviation ecosystem. The development aligns with broader industry trends, where demand for reliable, certified MRO services continues to grow alongside the expansion of business aviation fleets.

Graeme Duckworth, President of ExecuJet MRO Services Group, described the opening as a pivotal milestone for the company’s regional presence, “Today’s opening marks a pivotal moment for ExecuJet MRO Services’ presence in the region. We are expanding support for operators of multiple aircraft brands across Asia, and the Subang facility is key to that strategy.” The facility is equipped to perform both line and heavy maintenance on a variety of aircraft types, including those manufactured by Dassault, Bombardier, and Gulfstream, and is approved under multiple international aviation authorities.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Dassault Aviation, ExecuJet MRO Services brings global expertise to Malaysia’s aviation sector. The company, which originated in South Africa in 1991, has since expanded its footprint internationally, with facilities across Australia, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, and a franchise operation in China. The Subang expansion forms part of ExecuJet’s broader strategy to strengthen its global service network while responding to increasing regional demand. It also includes investment in workforce development, with plans to expand its team in Malaysia from 84 to 100 personnel, alongside continued growth over the next five years.

The opening ceremony was attended by key industry leaders and government representatives, including Anthony Loke, Minister of Transport Malaysia, alongside senior executives from Dassault Aviation and ExecuJet.

Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), highlighted the broader significance of the investment, “The comprehensive MRO solutions provided by ExecuJet MRO Services will greatly enhance Malaysia’s stature as an ideal location for aerospace companies aiming to expand in this region. We are excited to witness the positive influence this facility will have on our aerospace ecosystem and remain committed to supporting ExecuJet in their expansion journey.”

The facility is also aligned with the Subang Airport Regeneration Plan, a strategic initiative aimed at transforming Subang Airport into a regional hub for business aviation, alongside its roles in aerospace and city airport development. As business aviation continues to expand across Southeast Asia, the need for high-quality, certified MRO services is becoming increasingly critical. Facilities such as ExecuJet’s new Subang centre are expected to play a key role in supporting fleet growth, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing service accessibility for operators across the region.

With ASEAN projected to remain one of the fastest-growing aviation markets globally, Malaysia’s continued investment in infrastructure and capabilities positions it well to capture future opportunities within the aerospace sector. The launch of ExecuJet MRO Services Malaysia’s new facility marks a significant step forward in strengthening the country’s aviation ecosystem. By combining global expertise with local capability, the development reinforces Malaysia’s competitiveness as a regional hub for business aviation services.
