Exploring the Future of Urban Air Mobility
The Business and General Aviation Association of Malaysia, BAGAM, participated in the 1st International Conference on Urban Low-Altitude Transportation 2025, a pioneering global platform focused on the future of aviation technology, urban air mobility, and the emerging low-altitude economy. Bringing together global experts, regulators, and industry leaders, the conference centred on the theme of navigating the future through aviation innovation, new service ecosystems, and sustainable growth. The event reflects the increasing global momentum behind low-altitude transportation as a transformative solution for urban mobility and logistics.
Engaging Regional Regulators and Industry Leaders
The conference attracted participation from key aviation authorities and government agencies across the region, including Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), and representatives from Indonesia’s aviation authorities and Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport. BAGAM played an active role in facilitating engagement and supporting Malaysia’s participation, including introducing CAAM to the platform. The event provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen regional collaboration and align perspectives on the development of low-altitude aviation frameworks.
A Three-Day Programme of Strategic Dialogue and Demonstration
The conference programme was structured to provide both in-depth discussions and practical exposure to emerging technologies. The first two days, held at Beijing Daxing International Airport, focused on closed-door discussions and the official opening ceremony, where participants explored key challenges and opportunities within the low-altitude aviation ecosystem. Topics included regulatory frameworks, certification standards for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, and the integration of low-altitude operations into urban environments.
The third day in Jilin City featured live demonstrations of low-altitude flying activities, offering participants first-hand experience of drone logistics and urban air mobility solutions in action. These demonstrations provided valuable insights into real-world applications and operational considerations.
Addressing Challenges in a Rapidly Evolving Sector
As urban low-altitude transportation continues to gain traction globally, the conference highlighted several critical challenges, including the need for standardisation, cross-border certification, and stronger industrial coordination. Discussions emphasised the importance of aligning regional efforts with international frameworks to ensure safety, interoperability, and sustainable growth. The role of collaborative research and mutual recognition among countries was also identified as a key enabler in accelerating adoption while maintaining regulatory integrity.
Advancing Malaysia’s Readiness in the Low-Altitude Economy
For BAGAM, participation in this international conference represents a strategic step towards understanding and contributing to the development of the low-altitude economy in Malaysia. The exposure to global best practices, technological advancements, and policy discussions provides valuable insights that can support future initiatives within the country. The conference also reinforced the importance of early engagement in emerging aviation segments, ensuring that Malaysia remains aligned with global developments and is well-positioned to capture future opportunities in urban air mobility and advanced aerial systems.
Strengthening International Collaboration
The 1st International Conference on Urban Low-Altitude Transportation catalysed international cooperation, bringing together diverse stakeholders to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and explore collaborative pathways. The strong presence of regulators and industry players highlighted a collective commitment to shaping a safe, efficient, and inclusive low-altitude aviation ecosystem. BAGAM’s involvement reflects its proactive approach in engaging with global platforms that drive innovation and industry transformation.
As cities continue to evolve and new technologies reshape transportation, low-altitude aviation is emerging as a key enabler of smarter, more connected urban environments. From alleviating traffic congestion to enhancing logistics efficiency, the potential impact of this sector is significant. Through participation in forward-looking platforms such as the 1st International Conference on Urban Low-Altitude Transportation 2025, BAGAM continues to strengthen its role in supporting innovation, fostering collaboration, and positioning Malaysia within the next frontier of aviation development.
